To create awareness about heart disease prevention, CIS is hosting free electrocardiogram (EKG), carotid ultrasound, and blood pressure screenings on Thursday, May 9th from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at CIS Crowley (1325 Wright Avenue, Suite K).
An EKG is a painless test that records the electrical signals of the heart. The screening can detect blockages, the thickness of the heart wall, past heart attacks and more. Complimentary ultrasounds will be offered to test for carotid artery disease and abdominal aortic aneurysms. A carotid ultrasound uses ultrasound waves to locate blockages that may be present— ultimately determining risk for cardiovascular disease. Screening results will be reviewed onsite by CIS providers Dr. Arti Singh and JD Meche, NP. The event will also include snacks and refreshments. This is an opportunity to relax and learn more about heart disease risks and prevention.
Risk factors of cardiovascular disease include family history of heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes, as well as smoking, being overweight or being inactive.
